Excellent & fast same day service. Showed up when they were scheduled so we were not sitting around waiting time. Great communication as well.
Since my Rheem water heater stopped working, I was stuck without hot water. I called about 6 different plumbing companies and got astronomical quotes. RPM to the rescue! I called RPM and had my water heater replaced with 50 gallon Bradford White within several hours. All this at a fraction of the cost of what I was quoted by other companies! Eric was quick to respond and suggest a perfect water heater for my infrastructure. Eric was professional and honest, which I appreciated very much. After a quick phone call to a technician - Lou arrived. He removed my broken heater and had new one installed shortly there after. Thank you 🙏 RPM is highly recommended cheers.

Gas Line Plumbers in Montebello, CA
Gas piping is plumbing, and it is held to a higher standard than the water lines beside it. A water leak ruins a floor; a gas leak can hurt someone. Rooter & Plumbing Masters is a licensed and insured contractor (CSLB #1004038), and our plumbers repair leaking gas lines and fittings, replace corroded or damaged runs, and install new gas lines for appliances across Montebello and the San Gabriel Valley. Every repair and every new line is pressure tested before the gas is turned back on.
Gas leaks do not keep office hours, so neither do we. The same 24-hour line that handles a burst pipe handles a gas leak, and the crew comes from our own shop in Montebello. If the problem turns out to be the appliance rather than the line, we say so, and if that appliance is a gas water heater, we repair those too.
Safety First
If You Smell Gas, Do This Before You Call a Plumber
Leave the building, then call SoCalGas or 911 from outside. The gas utility responds to leak reports around the clock and will shut off and secure the supply. A plumber is the second call, not the first: our job is to find and fix the leak once the property is safe, and we cannot do that while gas is still flowing into the house.
- Get everyone out, including pets. Leave the door open behind you.
- Do not flip any switch, light or appliance, and do not use the phone or a garage door opener inside. A spark is all it takes.
- Do not try to find the leak yourself, and do not start your car if it is in an attached garage.
- From outside, call SoCalGas at 1-800-427-2200 or 911. If you know where your gas meter is and can reach it safely, the utility can tell you whether to shut it off.
- Then call us at (888) 855-6680. We answer 24 hours a day. Once the utility has made the property safe, we locate the leak, repair it and test the line so the gas can go back on.
If the smell is faint and you are not sure, treat it as real. Natural gas is odorless on its own; the rotten-egg smell is added so that a leak is noticed. A smell you can detect is already a leak worth reporting.
What We Do
Gas Line Services in Montebello
Our gas work is the work a licensed plumbing contractor is supposed to do: the piping, the fittings, the valves and the test. If the fault is inside an appliance rather than in the line, we tell you so rather than selling you pipe.
We handle:
- Gas leak repair. We locate the leaking line or fitting, repair or replace that section, and pressure test the whole run before the gas is restored.
- Gas line repair and replacement. Corroded, damaged or undersized lines, including runs that failed an inspection or a utility check.
- New gas line installation. Lines and hookups for ranges and cooktops, clothes dryers, water heaters, outdoor grills and fire features, including extending an existing line to a new location.
- Pressure testing and inspection. Every repair and every new line is pressure tested, and we tell you up front when the city requires a permit and an inspection. We can pull the permit for you, or you can pull it yourself.
- Gas shutoff valves. Manual and earthquake-activated valves at the meter or the appliance, covered on our emergency shutoff valves page.
A gas line on a commercial kitchen or a rental property follows the same process. See our commercial plumbing page for how we work with businesses and property managers.

Plumbing Tips
Signs of a Gas Leak
The most common sign of a gas leak is the rotten-egg smell, but not every leak is strong enough to notice indoors. Underground and outdoor leaks in particular tend to show themselves in other ways.
- A hissing or whistling sound near a gas line, meter or appliance connection.
- Dead or dying grass and plants in one patch of the yard, above a buried line.
- Bubbles in standing water or dirt blowing up from the ground near the line.
- A gas bill that rose with no change in use.
- Appliance flames burning orange or yellow instead of blue, or pilot lights that keep going out.
- Headaches, dizziness or nausea that clear up when you leave the house.
Any of the first four is a reason to call the utility and then us. The last two can also be an appliance or venting problem, which is worth a professional look either way.
When You Need a New or Replaced Gas Line
Most new gas lines are for an appliance that is moving or being added: a gas range replacing an electric one, a dryer in a new laundry location, a tankless water heater, or an outdoor grill or fire feature. A tankless unit in particular often needs a larger supply line than the tank it replaces, which is one of the questions we answer on a water heater estimate.
Replacement comes up when an older line has corroded, when a run was installed badly or with the wrong material, or when a line has been flagged by the utility, a home inspector or the city. Much of the housing in Montebello and the surrounding cities is old enough that the original gas piping is worth a look when other work is being done.
How a Gas Line Job Works
Every gas job ends the same way: the line is pressure tested, it holds, and only then does the gas go back on. Before that, the steps depend on the job.
- Assess. We confirm where the leak is, or where the new line needs to run, and check the condition of the existing piping it connects to.
- Quote. You get a free estimate and a price agreed before any work starts. If a permit is required, we tell you then. We can pull it for you, for an administrative fee on top of what the city charges, or you can pull it yourself.
- Isolate and repair or install. The affected run is shut off, the repair or new line is made, and the connections are sealed.
- Test. The line is pressure tested to confirm it holds. Where the city requires it, an inspector signs off before the line is put into service.
- Restore. The gas is turned back on and appliances are relit and checked.
To get a free estimate, call (888) 855-6680 or request one online. For an active leak, follow the steps above and call the utility first.
Common Questions
Gas Line FAQs
What should I do if I smell gas in my home?
Leave the building right away, taking everyone with you, and do not flip any switch, light a flame or use a phone inside. From outside, call SoCalGas at 1-800-427-2200 or 911. The utility will shut off and secure the gas. Call a plumber second: once the property is safe, we locate the leak, repair it and pressure test the line before the gas goes back on.
Do you repair gas leaks 24 hours a day?
Yes. The same 24-hour line handles a gas leak as a burst pipe, nights, weekends and holidays included. The utility still comes first: they make the property safe, and we make the repair.
Do I need a permit for gas line work in Montebello?
Usually, yes. New gas lines, extensions to a new appliance location and replacement of existing piping typically require a permit and an inspection from the city before the line is put into service. A like-for-like repair of a small section may not. We tell you up front whether your job needs one. We can pull the permit for you, which adds our administrative fee to whatever the city charges, or you can pull it yourself.
Can you run a gas line for a new range, dryer, water heater or outdoor grill?
Yes. Those are the most common installations we do: a gas range or cooktop replacing an electric one, a dryer in a new laundry location, a tank or tankless water heater, and an outdoor grill, fire pit or other fire feature. We size the line for the appliance and pressure test it before it is connected.
How do you know a gas line repair is safe?
Every repair and every new line is pressure tested before the gas is turned back on: the line is pressurized and watched to confirm it holds. Where the city requires an inspection, an inspector signs off as well. The gas does not go back on until the test passes.
What affects the cost of gas line work?
The length and route of the line, how hard it is to reach, whether an existing run has to be replaced or only repaired, and whether the city requires a permit. We do not quote gas work over the phone. A technician looks at it, gives you a free estimate, and the price is agreed before any work starts. Financing is available for larger jobs.
